Below are some of the most distinguished players to have represented Bonymaen RFC.
Rory Thornton

Rory Thornton is one of the most successful modern players to emerge from Bonymaen RFC. A powerful and athletic lock forward, Rory progressed through the club before establishing himself at the highest levels of professional rugby.
After making his name with the Ospreys, Rory later joined Cardiff Rugby, where he has become a key figure within the squad. His consistent performances at regional level earned him international recognition, and he achieved the honour of representing Wales, fulfilling the ambition shared by many young players who begin their rugby journey at Bonymaen RFC.
In December 2025, Rory reached a major career milestone by making his 100th appearance for Cardiff Rugby. To mark the occasion, Bonymaen RFC Vice Chairman Keith Brooks proudly presented Rory with his Cardiff jersey, recognising both the significance of the achievement and Rory’s continued connection to his home club. This milestone was a moment of great pride for everyone associated with Bonymaen RFC.
Alun Wyn Jones

Alun Wyn Jones is one of the most iconic figures in world rugby and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players ever to represent Wales. He joined Bonymaen RFC from Swansea West at the age of 11, beginning his rugby journey with the club before progressing to the very highest levels of the game.
Renowned for his leadership, durability, and consistency, Alun Wyn Jones became the most capped rugby union player of all time, earning an outstanding 170 caps for Wales during an extraordinary international career. He captained his country with distinction and led Wales through some of its most successful modern eras.
In addition to his achievements with Wales, Alun Wyn Jones also represented the British & Irish Lions, earning 12 Test caps across multiple Lions tours against the strongest opposition in world rugby. His achievements remain a tremendous source of pride for Bonymaen RFC and continue to inspire players throughout the club.
Malcolm Dacey

Malcolm Dacey is one of Bonymaen RFC’s most distinguished former players and a forward who went on to achieve the highest honours in international rugby.
He represented Wales between 1983 and 1987, earning 15 international caps during that period. Known for his physical presence and commitment in the pack, Malcolm became a respected figure at international level through his consistent performances for his country.
In recognition of his ability and standing in the game, Malcolm Dacey was also selected for the British & Irish Lions in 1986, placing him among an elite group of players chosen to represent the Lions. His achievements at both international and Lions level remain a significant source of pride for Bonymaen RFC and form an important part of the club’s rich rugby heritage.
Richard Webster

Richard Webster is one of the most accomplished centres in Welsh rugby history and a former Bonymaen RFC player who reached the very highest level of the game.
He represented Wales from 1987 to 1993, earning 13 international caps during that period. Renowned for his strength, skill, and defensive excellence, Webster was a key figure in the Welsh midfield and widely respected for his consistency and professionalism at international level.
In recognition of his performances, Richard Webster was selected for the British & Irish Lions in 1993, touring New Zealand and earning one of the highest honours available in the sport. His achievements at both international and Lions level remain a source of great pride for Bonymaen RFC and form an important part of the club’s rugby heritage.
